Like Arrows

We’ve been posed the question “Why?” frequently as people hear about our news of moving to Africa to be a dorm parent family. If we would had to give ourselves a mission statement, it might look something like this: “To uphold the family of God according to His design.”

He could have called us anywhere, or asked us to stay put (He can do that, He is God), but the call pointed directly to serve at Rift Valley Academy as dorm parents.  When we first sensed God’s nudge we sifted it through the words of scripture and sought the Lord for His confirmation.  We found that YES, God was leading us “to uphold the family of God according to His design” in Kenya, Africa!

We love “doing family” and consider it no small thing to add to our existing clan of 4.  Last we checked, the enemy is still out to kill, steal and destroy.  That means that God’s design for family is under attack.  The enemy doesn’t play favourites.  He is not gender bias, pays no regard to age or frailty and seems to have his cross hairs on the family of God.

We aim to reinforce God’s design and raise warriors who will defend the Kingdom.

With great heartache we have seen the family and the church affected by things that were once restrained but are now permissible, things that were once set aside to adult discretion are now readily available and things that were once guarded no longer have boundaries.

Our battle is as much about protecting Kingdom territory as it is about taking back the turf the enemy has stolen.

If children are to man what arrows are to the enemy, Lord, call forth the archers.

“Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth.  Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them!  He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.”  Psalm 127:4-5 (ESV)
